Coach Devin Raho has been coaching the wrestling team at Goose Creek High for 2 years, but this is his 9th year as a wrestling coach. Coach Raho has had his triumphs and accomplishments along the way.
Coach Raho was born in Pennsylvania and comes from a place where wrestling is the premier sport. He has been involved in wrestling for almost 21 years now. He wrestled for Williams Valley High School which is part of District 11 and is known as the best wrestling area in the country. Throughout his high school days, he was in several weight classes: 112,119, 130, and 135.
Coach Raho has had honorable achievements, for instance, he was a numerous time District placer as well as a southeast regional qualifier. He achieved 98 career victories which at the time was the second-most in school history.
Throughout his coaching career, he won 2 state champions, 2 Top 5 state placers, 13 wrestlers who placed at the state tournament, and 6 wrestlers who wrestled at a collegiate level.
Coach Raho said, “Wrestling has a tremendous impact on my life. It has shaped me into the man I am today. It has taught me to bring the fight to everyday life and work hard for everything you desire.”
He coached in Pennsylvania at Williams Valley HS for 4 years as an assistant. Following his years there, he coached in South Carolina at North Charleston HS for 3 years as the head coach and is presently coaching Goose Creek High. The season started with 20 new faces on the wrestling team. So far this season the team’s record is 5-14. He says that the team has been working hard and showing a lot of progress and he is also very grateful for the opportunity to work with all the new wrestlers. Coach Raho stated, “Every match is challenging and needs full constant attention to detail. Wrestling has many ways to win and lose so the full focus is always needed.”
Coach Raho can’t wait for what the future holds for new wrestlers.
