Multiple Teams · Gator Wrestling Enters Lower-State!

February 17-18, in Lexington SC, the Goose Creek Gator Wrestling Team will be competing in the Lower-State Championship, a series of individual matches which will determine which wrestlers from the low-country will go to Columbia for the State Wrestling Championship. In order to proceed to state, a wrestler must leave Lexington in the top 4 of their individual weight class. Goose Creek had 2 State Champions in 2016, so we expect great things from the Gators in this year’s Lower-State & State Championships.

Goose Creek Journalism conducted an interview with Gator Wrestling Coach Nick Geary & former State qualifier and Goose Creek High School Senior Tito Colon.

GCHS Journalism: “With Lower-State being today and tomorrow, what are your thoughts on the match ups? Do you anticipate great results?”

Coach Geary: “I do expect great results. All the guys on the team are fully prepared for Lower-State, especially after coming out of the season beating 15-20 of some of the greatest teams in South Carolina. I can see at least 4 of our guys making it to the final round at the State Championship.”

GCHS Journalism:  “With this possibly being the last match that you’ll wrestle for Gator Wrestling, do you expect to come out strong, and finish strong? Is there any advise that you want to give to underclassmen for when they get to this point?”

Tito Colon: “I believe I’ll do very well. I’ve worked very hard for this moment, and I’m not going in to lose. My advise to all the underclassmen, is to never give up on yourself, always work hard/push forward, and wrestle smart. You do that, and you’ll be fine.”
