Inaugural Sharonda Singleton Track Classic

Wednesday, March 1st at 5:00 started an historic event for Goose Creek High School’s track team. The lnaugural Sharonda Singleton Track Classic was in full motion on Wednesday night. The dream for Coach Singleton was made a success that night.

After getting enough funds from the Gator Crawl last year, the track meet was put into full effect. There were three schools there that came out to compete in the meet. It was a great environment, and there was a lot of anticipation for the teams leading up to that night. The whole team did a great job and didn’t mind showing out. We were so happy to see who came out to support the event. Seeing the Soccer team and Girls’ Basketball team skipping a day of practice and the teachers coming out to help out with the meet did not go unnoticed. All of the help was greatly appreciated. Also seeing Brandon Shell there to support was amazing.

The GC Gators track team knew how much pressure was put on them for weeks, and the time had finally come to show out for our coach. Some of the girls had a close relationship with Coach Singleton, and there was some pressure for them to make sure that they did their best that night. “I miss her terribly, but I’m glad that this event is happening to show that her death is not something that goes unnoticed,” said Janae Redden, a junior. The girls knew what the event meant to them personally and wanted to show how much she meant to them. “Even though Coach Singleton isn’t here right now, I know that she is looking down on us running now, and she smiling our favorite smile,” said Alexis Simmons, a senior. This event meant so much to me personally, I’m glad that I didn’t leave high school without being a part of this event. Coach Singleton meant so much to me and taught me so much on and off of the track. I’m forever thankful for her teachings. I hope that this event continues to grow and be a huge success in the near future.
